Your existing education and work experience become the foundation as you expand your knowledge and prepare for better career opportunities.

Available Program Tracks

Florida National University gives you multiple paths to earn your BSN degree. Each path fits different educational backgrounds and career stages.

Traditional BSN Program Track covers a detailed 120-credit curriculum for students who are starting their BSN education. You’ll learn nursing fundamentals, physical assessment, pathophysiology, and specialized areas like pediatric, psychiatric, and maternity nursing. The track needs 67 credits of core nursing courses if you don’t have RN licensure.

RN to BSN Program Track works as a faster option when you have an active RN license. You can finish your bachelor’s degree in just 12-24 months, based on your schedule and course load. Your RN license lets you transfer 34 credits from previous nursing courses, which cuts your core requirements to 33 credits. The track focuses on advanced concepts including:

  • Physical Assessment (4 credits)
  • Pathophysiology (4 credits)
  • Nursing Research (3 credits)
  • Leadership and Management (3 credits)
  • Community Nursing (4 credits)

Foreign Physicians Track opens a special path for international medical doctors. This track values your prior education if you graduated from an accredited foreign medical institution and practiced for at least two years. An accredited agency must review your medical school transcripts. Most of your general education courses can transfer once approved.

Florida National University’s virtual RN to BSN option has a similar curriculum to the on-campus version. Working professionals get maximum flexibility without commuting while getting the same quality education.

These accelerated tracks recognize your prior learning and experience, especially when you have RN licensure or medical backgrounds. Your existing knowledge becomes the foundation for expanding your professional skills toward advanced nursing roles.

The BSN program at Florida National University helps you develop leadership skills and evidence-based practice. You’ll be ready for career growth or further education at the master’s level, whatever track you choose.

Flexible Learning Formats

Florida National University designs its BSN programs to fit the needs of busy professionals.

FNU splits its 16-week semesters into two 8-week terms throughout the year. This smart calendar setup lets you complete your nursing degree faster than traditional programs and gets you into advanced practice sooner.

Students can choose from several scheduling options that work around their personal and work commitments. Live classes run one evening per week, with additional weekend sessions, online courses, and live streaming formats. Steady enrollment through six consecutive semesters means you can earn your BSN degree in just 2 years.

Students get the same quality education whether they choose online or campus programs, as both follow similar syllabi. Campus options provide structured classroom settings in Miami or Hialeah. Online learning eliminates travel hassles—no tolls, traffic, or parking costs—and lets you set your own schedule. Working professionals find this setup particularly valuable as they can boost their qualifications while keeping their current job.

The university makes things easier with self-scheduling options through the FNU Portal for specific program components. Students learning remotely can send completed forms to the Registrar’s Office by email or fax. Your course schedules and other vital information are also right there on the portal.

Winter, summer, and fall semesters feature core nursing courses, giving you the academic flexibility you need to balance work and family life. Many general education requirements take just eight weeks to complete online.

Florida National University supports your educational experience with financial aid and scholarships that help with tuition costs for accelerated nursing programs. This mix of adaptable learning formats and financial support creates a clear path to advance your nursing career while you maintain your current lifestyle.

Entry Criteria & Prerequisites

Florida National University’s BSN program has specific academic and professional requirements to make sure students are ready for nursing education.

You need to score at least 65% on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) minimum 65% combined score. The entrance exam tests you on Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English Language usage with 170 questions. Students get 209 minutes to complete it. You must take this proctored test at either the Hialeah or South Campus locations. Your passing scores stay valid for one year. Students can try twice but must wait 30 days between attempts.

Students should finish all General Education courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 before applying. The program also needs two professional or academic reference letters.

Your application package must have a 500-word essay that explains why you want to become a nurse. The essay should highlight your strengths, weaknesses, and life experiences that will help you succeed. The university checks this essay through Turnitin or SafeAssign to detect plagiarism and AI-generated content.

After you submit your application, you’ll have an entrance interview with the Program Director or their representative. The program might ask successful candidates to get a physical exam and provide detailed immunization records.

The university needs a full background screening that includes local, federal level 2, and AHCA checks. Drug testing is also required based on clinical facility rules. Remember that positive results might affect your ability to complete clinical experiences, meet program requirements, or get your license after graduation.

RN to BSN track students must have an active Registered Nurse license. The Foreign Physicians track needs graduates from accredited foreign medical schools with at least two years of practice.

Students must pay for their physical exams, immunizations, background checks, and drug tests.
