Herzing University BSN Programs

Herzing University BSN Programs

Herzing University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program equips graduates to thrive as nurse generalists in a variety of healthcare settings. The complete undergraduate program shapes professionals who deliver patient care that’s evidence-based, caring, and comprehensive.

The BSN curriculum focuses on everything in modern nursing practice:

  • Patient-centered care
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Evidence-based practice
  • Safety and quality improvement
  • Informatics and innovative technologies
  • Leadership development

Students who complete the program become skilled at eight core competencies that showcase nursing excellence. You’ll learn to put patients first by using clinical judgment and nursing processes. The program teaches you to work with patients, families, and team members to deliver safe, culturally competent care. On top of that, it helps you apply evidence-based practices in different clinical settings. You’ll learn to reduce risks through systems effectiveness and individual performance.

The program teaches you to use information technology to communicate better, reduce errors, support decisions, and manage patient care. You’ll review quality improvement processes to boost patient outcomes and blend professionalism with advanced leadership skills in interdisciplinary healthcare. You’ll also study national and global policies, legislative concepts, and economics to improve population outcomes.

Students need 120 semester credit hours to graduate with a BSN degree. The curriculum blends theory with hands-on clinical experience in healthcare settings of all types. This gives students a complete, ground understanding of nursing duties.

Your education centers on assessment and remediation. The program includes standardized, proctored exams that predict NCLEX examination success. During your final semester, you’ll take an exit exam covering all nursing courses to check your NCLEX readiness.

Accurate dosage calculation is a vital skill in the program. This basic ability will give a safe foundation for patient care. It helps nurses calculate medication doses correctly and prevents adverse drug events and errors.

Herzing’s BSN program creates strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills. These abilities help nurses care for patients of all backgrounds throughout their lives and health journeys.

Available Program Tracks

Herzing University has several ways to earn your Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The programs fit your education level and work experience. You can become a registered nurse or move up in your nursing career through these different tracks.

The 3-Year Pre-Licensure BSN Program helps students who are just starting out in nursing. You can complete this traditional program at many campus locations across the United States. The campuses include Atlanta, Brookfield, Clarksville, Kenosha, Madison, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando, and Tampa.

Students without nursing experience have many more flexible options to choose from:

  • Online BSN: All didactic and lecture classes are online with eligibility in select U.S. states
  • Accelerated BSN: This program helps bachelor’s degree holders from other fields start their second career in nursing
  • Pre-nursing: A path for students who don’t meet direct entry requirements for the BSN program

Current nurses can advance their careers through simplified processes:

  • RN to BSN: Registered nurses can earn their BSN online in as little as 1 year
  • LPN to BSN: Licensed Practical Nurses can use their experience to get their BSN faster

Herzing stands out by offering special bridge programs for healthcare professionals who want to switch to nursing:

  • Paramedic to BSN
  • Respiratory Therapist to BSN
  • Cardiovascular Technician to BSN
  • Military Medic to BSN

Students must complete a minimum of 120 semester credit hours to graduate. The program has 66 semester credit hours of required nursing courses. These cover key topics like pathophysiology, health assessment, pharmacology, and various nursing specialties.

Herzing’s BSN programs have a unique dual credit option. Qualified students can take up to four graduate-level courses during their BSN program. These credits count toward both BSN and future Master’s of Science in Nursing degrees. This option helps save time and money if you plan to continue your education.

Your current career or education background doesn’t matter. Herzing University has a BSN pathway that will help you reach your nursing career goals.

Flexible Learning Formats

Herzing University’s flexible BSN program formats let you balance your education with life responsibilities. You can pursue your nursing education that fits your schedule and priorities without putting your life on hold.

The BSN program gives you multiple flexible learning options that work with your busy lifestyle:

  • Take classes during the day or evening at one of Herzing’s 11-12 campus locations or online
  • Access all core didactic (lecture) courses online with both real-time and on-demand options
  • Complete asynchronous online courses at your own pace while meeting academic requirements
  • Get automatic registration into appropriate classes needed to graduate on time
  • Apply when you’re ready with rolling admissions and continuous enrollment with minimal wait lists

Online completion works for many parts of the BSN program, but hands-on clinical experiences remain vital to your nursing education. This hybrid approach combines convenient online learning with ground practical experience. As noted by Herzing, “none of our nursing programs may be completed entirely online” since real-life application is vital to develop nursing competencies.

Herzing structures its programs to help working professionals maintain school-life balance. Students often keep their part-time jobs throughout their studies. New nurses enrolling in the BSN program can take night classes. Students who can’t attend full-time have part-time enrollment options.

The university takes pride in being military-friendly. Active-duty service members can earn their nursing degree while deployed overseas thanks to flexible online options[82].

Your educational trip includes access to extensive virtual support services. Academic advising, tutoring, technical assistance, and complete library resources help ensure your success whatever learning format you choose.

The BSN program’s flexible format delivers the best of both worlds. It combines scheduling freedom with quality education to prepare you for a successful nursing career.

Entry Criteria & Prerequisites

Starting your nursing career begins with getting into Herzing University’s BSN programs. You’ll need to complete an interview with a Herzing admissions advisor and submit an application.

General BSN Admission Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required for all undergraduate programs)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for direct entry BSN programs
  • Minimum composite score of 66 on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
  • Completion of an entrance evaluation or submission of qualifying ACT/SAT scores
  • Personal commitment and professional attitude
  • Availability of time to attend classes, complete projects, and submit assignments

Students with 18 or more transferable credits will be evaluated based on their collegiate cumulative GPA. The high school GPA becomes the basis for evaluation if you have fewer credits.

GPA requirements differ across campus locations. Some campuses let students with higher GPAs (3.50-4.00) skip both science prerequisites and TEAS testing. Students with GPAs between 3.00-3.49 might need a 3.00 GPA in college science courses like Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Chemistry, and Microbiology.

Your GPA doesn’t meet the minimum requirements? Herzing has other options. You can join a Pre-Nursing associate degree program (minimum GPA 2.25), an Associate of Science in Nursing program (minimum GPA 2.5), or a Practical Nursing Diploma program (minimum GPA 2.0).

Students who don’t meet minimum standards can get provisional admission through an appropriate entrance evaluation score. This path requires passing Professional Development I, College Algebra and/or English Composition I, plus a positive recommendation from campus leadership.

The online nursing programs have specific state restrictions. The online ASN program welcomes residents from Florida, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
